Meet our Oral Health Therapist and Registered Dental Hygienist, Laura Hartshorne, Wellsford Dental

Laura is a registered Oral Health Therapist, graduating from Auckland University of Technology in 2012, with a Bachelor of Health Science in Oral Health. She has many years previous experience working as a Dental Therapist and Hygienist in the local Kowhai Coast area. Laura has a special interest in the prevention of oral health diseases in all age groups. She is passionate about oral health, and about optimum general health and wellbeing.

An important part of her role is oral health promotion for patients at Wellsford Dental. She works towards improving your oral health through education and therapeutic measures. Laura works with you to achieve optimum oral health by creating awareness, aiding in prevention, and wherever necessary in early intervention of oral disease.

Laura provides complete care for children and adolescents through examination, routine dental treatments and preventative work. This includes taking x-rays, fillings, fissure sealants and extractions of deciduous teeth. When required she will refer specific cases to our dentists. Her manner is very well received by our younger patients, who appreciate her clear, precise language, and friendly personality.

For adults, your dentist and Laura complement each other in the services and care they provide. While your Dentist will focus on diagnosis and the completion of routine or complex treatment plans, your Oral Health Therapist will assist in the stabilisation and maintenance of your oral health through hygiene treatments. Laura will spend extended time with each patient during the hygiene treatments creating a personalised experience and allowing educating on home care routines.

Continued professional development ensures Laura is up to date with advances in dentistry. This encompasses clinical skills, new materials, and theories to provide up to date and exceptional dental care for our patients.

Tooth and gum disease can be uncomfortable, expensive and create an unwelcome interruption to everyday life, or even worse – an important event or holiday! Prevention is the key to avoiding oral health concerns. The ability to prevent such disease relies on your knowledge of dental health and access to routine dental maintenance appointments. Laura has the skills to help you achieve the best dental health possible.

Outside the clinic Laura enjoys spending time outdoors with her young family. And whenever able to, she likes to spend time with her family and friends. She also enjoys cooking, and watching movies.
